The Value of Sports

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Sports have become an integral part of our culture.  Thus, it is not surprising that more and more children become involved in sports every year.  Both in public and community agencies, children’s sports programs that involve baseball, soccer, football, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, and other activities, have grown to the extent that they have changed the shape of many children’s lives.

Participation in sports have both positive and negative consequences for children.  Children’s participation in sports can provide exercise, opportunities to learn how to compete, self-esteem, and a setting for developing peer relations and friendships.  However,  sports can also have negative outcomes for children: the pressure to achieve and win, physical injuries, a distraction from academic work, and unrealistic expectations for success as an athlete. Few people challenge the value of sports for children when conducted as part of a school physical education or intramural programs.  However, some critics question the highly competitive, win-oriented sports teams in schools and communities.

Latest in Technology

Monday, September 15th, 2008

When I bought my computer, I thought that the latest released of Intel processor is core2 duo but then when I already have it, there is a core2 quad available in the market. I was a bit late about the computer updates that time. I just had my sour grapes that they always releases new model and the latests don’t last long to be the latest.

On the second thought, what I said is definitely true. When it comes to technology, improvements are faster. They invent this one now, then it not that good tomorrow because they discovered another one better today. Just like on cellphones, new releases of their new models are almost monthly or even weekly. Different features and another added functions is installed with the new model. Just like people, we should not stop discovering about the development of ourselves and keep learning because learning never stops.

Listening- A Sign of Good Breeding

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Listening well is a skill that helps us get by.  If we listen for the instructions we thus know what to do.  We listen to the newscasts we will know the latest news and if we listen to commentators’ views or comments we find ourselves forming our own opinions on current issues.

Everyday of our life, there’s so much to listen to.  Teachers explaining the lesson.  A supervisor or co-employee discussing something or giving report.  Officials giving short talks during convocations and speakers talking on topics that really concerns each and everyone of us.

Take the effort to listen and understand what is said because it will be for the better of us.  Listening attentively is a sign of good breeding and it is good sense as well.
